Jan. 30th, 2005 06:55 pmBefore she goes upstairs to her room, Moiraine speaks quietly to the bar and claims a cobalt-blue glass dish, which she takes with her. She drifts into her room and looks around blankly, then fills the dish with water and sets it on the table by her bed. Slowly, the Aes Sedai begins to take small white naphalot blossoms from her hair and then sets them afloat, laying the blue flowers aside as she finds them.
By the time she is finished, the still quiet surface of the water in the dish is nearly covered with white flowers. Moiraine hesitates, and then slowly picks up the blue flowers and puts them in the empty spaces, covering the water's surface entirely. She stares at them for a time.
...I view them with infinite longing,
So like do they seem to my lov'd one ...
Eventually, she rises, and takes the blue dish to the other side of the room. Moiraine sets it carefully on the shelf, and then turns away from it and goes to her bed, where she lies down to sleep.
The heavy perfume of the naphalot floats after her as she falls into her dreams.
...The lovely, lost garden of Zais
Where blossoms the white naphalot,
The redolent herald of midnight.
