Moiraine is a small, slender woman, dark-haired and dark-eyed. She seems strangely ageless, and is usually dressed in blue. She wears a golden chain across her forehead, with a small blue crystal dangling from it, along with a gold ring in the form of a serpent on the second finger of her left hand.

Born to House Damodred, she was raised in the Royal Palace in Cairhien, but left all of that behind to become an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah in Tar Valon. As such, she swore the Three Oaths: to speak no word that is not true; to make no weapon with which one man may kill another; and never to use the One Power as a weapon except against Shadowspawn, or in the last extreme of defense of her own life, or that of her Warder or another Aes Sedai.

She is particularly gifted at Daes Dae'mar, the Great Game or Game of Houses, and has something of a strong Talent for Healing as well. She is more skilled with Water, Air, and Spirit than with Fire and Earth, but has some facility with all five.

Moiraine is absolutely devoted to her cause: to oppose the Dark One through aiding the Dragon Reborn in his preparation for Tarmon Gaidon, the Last Battle against the Shadow. She means to see this done, whatever the cost.

She vanished falling through a ter'angreal while in battle with one of the Forsaken, and was presumed dead. Close examination of certain prophecies and other hints, however, indicates that this may not have been precisely accurate...

When embracing saidar/channeling in Milliways, Moiraine glows with a golden aura. The colors of the power that she weaves will be described specifically as it happens. Canonically, she has a heightened sensitivity to the "taint of the Shadow," i.e. supernatural evil; in Milliways she will notice this only if she is actively channeling and looks for it.
