Dec. 23rd, 2004 05:42 pm*Moiraine looks at the assembled gifts she has collected on her shopping trip with Tom with a pleased smile that soon fades into a tiny frown. She has found all of the gifts she needs, she thinks, along with a few miscellaneous items just in case -- all save one, and that one arguably the most important.
The Aes Sedai sighs, thinking. Surely, surely there must be some way to obtain this thing that she wants so desperately to give Dream.*

Date: 2004-12-28 01:06 am (UTC)That is new. The last time you visited me ... here, you knocked, as I recall.
*Her tone is polite, even if a slight blush has risen into her face at the pause.*
It is true. What does one gift to a being such as one of the Endless? Still, I have at least had ideas. More than one, at that.

Although, when you want to know what to give an Endless... An Endless is a safe one to ask.

Date: 2004-12-28 01:27 am (UTC)What purpose would that serve, really? As it happens, I am glad to see you, Desire. For one thing, I have something for you.
*Moiraine tilts her head, smiling at the Endless, and plucks a small package wrapped in silver from the pile on her bed, and hands it to Desire.*
Merry Christmas.

Date: 2004-12-28 02:46 am (UTC)I liked the idea of the mirror, but they are more useful than that, as it happens. I am told that they are a communications device; one may look into the mirror and call the name of a person elsewhere who holds the other, and see and speak between them.
I thought, perhaps, that you might find a use for such a thing.

Date: 2004-12-28 03:05 am (UTC)The Endless' gold eyes flicker over to where she stands with her gift, smiling faintly. "Your turn, isn't it?"

Date: 2004-12-28 03:15 am (UTC)*Moiraine moves to sit in the other chair, across from Desire, and delicately unwraps the blue paper. She lifts out a chain with a silver pendant hanging from it, one in an unmistakable shape.*
Avendoraldera. The sapling from the Tree of Life, which Laman cut down. I grew up seeing this tree in the garden of the Sun Palace, before my uncle's pride saw it destroyed and war brought down.
*Her voice holds memory, and she looks at Desire.*
Thank you.

no subject
Date: 2004-12-28 04:06 am (UTC)*Moiraine smiles, faintly, and looks at the Endless with clear hope in her eyes.*
I have thought of a gift for your brother, but it is not something that I myself can obtain. Tom Riddle tells me that it is possible to do, but to be truly what I wish him to have, it must be from a time past 1997, and so Tom cannot help me.
Would you be willing to, perhaps? I would not waste your time with explanations, if not.

Date: 2004-12-28 04:17 am (UTC)The Endless smiles, unable to keep the knife's edge out of the expression.
"Ask, and it's yours, Moiraine."

Date: 2004-12-28 04:35 am (UTC)Thank you, Desire.
*She looks thoughtful for a moment.*
I seek a crystal, or a globe of some sort, that will carry both image and sound. There is a place, I am told, an aviary established by a man named Audobon, that is a home for birds of all types from everywhere in the world. I want the crystal to bring images from what would have been Morpheus's present, had he lived, from that place, and be such that he can move it to look elsewhere within the walls of the aviary as he wishes. And to carry sounds of birdsong, that he may listen, as he chooses.
*Moiraine pauses for a moment, and finishes quite simply.*
Dream likes birds, I believe. I want him to have some small link to that which was lost.

The first impression is colors, shifting in the crystal's fog: As the shapes become more distinct, there is the twitter of birdsong. A lark. A whippoorwill. And then song of birds more exotic and unfamiliar.
As if showing it for her approval, Desire's hand turns, and the view within the crystal changes with it.
"Like that?"

Date: 2004-12-28 05:09 am (UTC)Yes. Exactly like that, I think. It is perfect, Desire.

Date: 2004-12-28 05:26 am (UTC)If you, given what you are, cannot figure it out, then I have very little hope of doing so accurately, but it was the best that I could come up with.
And I do thank you.

Date: 2004-12-28 09:42 am (UTC)Perhaps it depends on the family in question. *A pause.* Certainly I would think that your family is more, shall we say, all-encompassing than most.
