I am writing to you with news of your daughter Elizabeth, news that I trust you will find to be of a most pleasant nature.

It has come to my attention that you may be unaware of the details of certain matters involving your daughter, and I am sorry that word was not sent to you before now. I am not from your country, but I had the good fortune to meet Elizabeth while traveling. I find her to be a very pleasant companion, gentle and well-mannered, with lively conversation; she is a lady that I am pleased to call friend.

Recently, an associate conveyed an invitation to Elizabeth with an offer of transportation to the premises where I make residence; it is only now that I have discovered that the manner in which this was done may have been something other than absolutely proper, and I extend apologies for this. I am afraid the situation at the time was rather urgent, as a close friend was very unwell and so in a great deal of danger, and I was deeply involved with events and unable to focus clearly on other matters. In fact, the associate who brought the invitation was the sibling of my dear friend, and so may have been distracted. If you are generous, this might be considered an explanation for any inappropriate behavior.

Elizabeth accepted the invitation, and has been residing here since. She was instrumental in my friend's recovery, and I am very grateful for her assistance.

During her stay, Elizabeth has made the acquaintance of a gentleman, one Master Peter Pettigrew. I am pleased to be able to tell you that he has made her the offer of his hand in marriage, and that she has accepted him. He is well-situated, with a number of powerful friends and no debts that I am aware of; he is also gainfully employed as a healer. Master Pettigrew is very devoted to your daughter, and she to him; he has expressed to me his earnest intention to care for Elizabeth and for her family until the end of his days, and I believe that they will be as happy together as it is possible to be.

As travel is a matter of some difficulty at present, they are to be married at this estate in a lakeside ceremony, after which I expect that they shall take up residence nearby. I trust you will join me in wishing them all the best, and I expect that you shall hear from them soon.
