"Moiraine." Cooper glances out the window -- still light outside. Not much time has passed, either. He's pretty sure. "You've returned from Milliways, I take it."
The Bookhouse is comfortable enough; he's certainly had worse accomodations. He doesn't mind bunking there for the time being, though it's a situation that will need to be addressed in the future.
Presuming, of course, that it's necessary for them to do so.
Because if Moiraine feels trapped here --
"I'm supposing," he says, without preamble, sitting on the edge of the window seat, "that there's news from Milliways."
Several possibilities sprang to mind on his drive over.
"Lord Ostium's fiefdom." Cooper's eyes narrow slightly. "Which would mean the potential threat is coming from a particularly dangerous source."
Once upon a time, Moiraine brought him with her to seek shelter from a different threat within the House of Arch. The fact that there's someone, or something, capable of doing harm to the House and its inhabitants --
Moiraine nods a second time, and takes a folded piece of paper from the pocket of her skirt. She holds it out to him.
"I thought it best that I tell you," she says, after a moment. "Since I must go, and that soon, I think; there is no way yet to know how imminent the threat is."
It is completely -- completely -- absurd that he should feel hurt. At least it manifests as incredulity. "Moiraine, are you currently physically capable of providing the aid he's going to need against a threat of this kind?"
With very precise movements he refolds the letter and hands it back to Moiraine.
With similarly precise language -- because what use is it going to be to protest? And isn't finding something to do better than not? -- he asks, with formal courtesy, "Will you allow me to accompany you?"

"Dale Cooper."

"It is Moiraine."

"I would not have wished to disturb you."
It is there only for a moment, and then gone.
"Thank you, Dale. I shall see you soon."
The phone makes a quiet 'click' as she returns it to the cradle.

It might be telling, maybe, that his suit is crisp, as is his dark blue tie.
His badge is on his belt, right where it belongs.

Slender and still seemingly-fragile on the outside, Moiraine looks up at him, then moves to the side.
"Please, do come in."
There is a flicker in the dark eyes, briefly acknowledging the irony of her inviting him into his own apartment.

It's serious. That's not a question.

She opens her eyes again, and looks at him without any attempt at evasion.
"I gave him my word, some time ago, and with it the right to call upon me for aid in a time of need. A favor for a favor, as it happens."
