Aug. 23rd, 2004 08:18 pmMoiraine sits quietly in her room, thinking.
She recalls the karaoke once again, and laughs slightly. Oh, she was thoroughly embarrassed, and would not willingly have done it, nor would she willingly do it again, but this place is strange, and she can admit that it was amusing, in some ways. She thinks it possible that Siuan might even have enjoyed such a thing, or would have when they were novices together. In any case, it is over and done with, and there is no point in allowing the event to upset her now. Eventually, Moiraine manages to convince herself of this, and is able to set it aside.
Other things weigh on her mind, at present; things she has not been able to forget, and to which she does not truly know how to react, even now. Things she does not understand. She had not really focused on anything but her cause in over twenty years. She had not allowed herself to; finding and aiding the Dragon Reborn had been everything. Was everything. Vandene's words, from long ago, echo in her memory: "You Blues. Always so ready to save the world that you lose yourselves." It had been so for her, yes, and she had accepted that, and paid the fullest price she had then thought possible.
Other words, newer words, echo softly in her memory:
"Because I might love you, did I have the chance."
"I promise to you... that I shall not hurt you knowingly nor shall I allow my words to be lies."
"You should sleep, Moiraine. Think about this."
"You know where to find me..."
Yes. She knows where to find him; but she is afraid to re-enter Tel'aran'rhiod, and has been since the dreaming search. She cannot go to the Garden, not now. Not yet. She dares not.
Moiraine tears a piece from the silk that encases her angreal. Slowly, she removes the amethyst key, and wraps it carefully in the silk before putting it in her belt pouch.
