The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills, and all things are part of the Pattern. There is little that she can do now but wait, guard against events worsening as best she can, and watch.

As a result, Moiraine is in the bar this evening, musing over her thoughts with a cup of tea at hand and a slender, leather-bound journal open to a blank page before her.

"And you can be rich in other ways, too, or so I hear." He shakes his head at her.

"I told you. She's on the run. Has been for years."

"So it is said," she agrees, before she narrows her eyes at him, considering.

"That she was being hunted, yes. One might think that would be a good time to seek to shore up support before being found, rather than waiting until that point. I sought to clarify."

[bialy_wilk]

"Sure, if you have a way to hide from the hunters," he points out. "She's been running from them because they can find her if she's in any one place for too long."

[blue_ajah]

She tips her head forward, acknowledging his point. "Do you happen to know how they are able to locate her? Sometimes these methods of seeking can be blocked."

[bialy_wilk]

He shakes his head, the expression in his golden eyes turning wry. "Something to do with her power. If she uses it, they know where she is in moments. For a while they kept a close eye on the people she's close to. Waiting to see if she'd come to them."

[blue_ajah]

Moiraine nods. "But they are not able to detect her when she is not actively using it? If it is similar to how such things work in the world where I was born, it is possible to invert and mask such use."

[bialy_wilk]

"That, I don't know," the witcher admits. "I think not. But it's just a guess."

[blue_ajah]

She picks up her glass once more and takes a small sip. "One of the benefits of this place, I have found, is the chance to learn new approaches to problems; even new skills to use in dealing with them."

[bialy_wilk]

"Guess that brings us back to the 'potential student' idea," Geralt says, wry. "But it won't matter if I can't find her first."

[blue_ajah]

"So it seems she is hiding from her allies as well as from her enemies." There is more than a little sympathy in her look. "I imagine that might be frustrating."

[bialy_wilk]

"I'd rather she hide from all of us than be found by the Hunt." His voice is low and gruff, rough even when he wets his throat with wine. "But she's back in my world, for the first time in years. Gotta be a reason for it."

[blue_ajah]

"It seems likely there would be," she murmurs. "I shall wish you luck in your search."

[bialy_wilk]

He reaches once more for his wine, taking a long swallow. "Thanks."

[blue_ajah]

"Certainly. It is the least I can do."

She studies his expression, the manner in which he holds himself, and adds, carefully casual, "Should you locate her, if she might wish to speak with a peer of sorts, I could see if that might be arranged."

He studies her right back, thinking over their conversation, over what it might have cost for her to make that offer, conditional as it is. "I think she'd like that," he says, slowly, and makes up his mind.

"I was told she sometimes comes here. If you see a young woman, ashen-haired and green-eyed, with a scar on her face... her name is Ciri."

She nods, committing the name and description to memory. "Should I happen to see her, is there a message you would wish to have passed on?"

He leans forward, elbows on his thighs, and gives her question some thought before he looks back at her.

"Tell her to keep an edge on her sword. It had better be in good shape when I catch up to her."

[blue_ajah]

True amusement flashes in her eyes.

"I see that witchers and Warders may have some things in common. Very well, I shall do so, if possible."

[bialy_wilk]

He lifts his brows at her, but doesn't sit back.

"Warders?"

[blue_ajah]

"You may think of them as battle-ready companions to Aes Sedai," she explains. "Skill with the sword is a part of Warder training."

[bialy_wilk]

"Hm." Sounds like knights, to him, although knights aren't usually sworn just to one lady. Or, if they are, it tends to be a one-way connection. "Interesting concept. Maybe just as well our mages and sorceresses haven't thought of it yet."

[blue_ajah]

"It can be an effective partnership, bringing a nice balance of skills." She gives the faintest of shrugs. "Do your sorceresses and mages have no need of such things?"

[bialy_wilk]

"I try not to involve myself with the workings of our sorceresses and mages," he says, dry. "They'd probably think it's a great idea."

[blue_ajah]

"I see." Amusement flickers in the dark eyes once more. "Then for your sake, perhaps it is just as well."

[bialy_wilk]

"Someone would probably end up trying to combine the two things, witchers and Warders," Geralt says, a faint twitch to his mouth in response to her amusement.

"Can't imagine that would go well."
